Why do pin tail retro longboards tend to come come with a more ranked fin and square tail retro longboards come with a more full pivot fin?

Surfboards are complicated things. There are a lot of factors that work together to create a specific ride. Over time, some shapers have developed surfboard theories on what makes a good ride and they shape baords based on those ideas. Raked fins tend to be more maneuverable and so do pin tails. Large fins are better for stability and so are square tails. Most likely, the shapers that wanted maneuverable boards went with raked fins and pin tails and that is why we see this trend.
