What is the peak of the wave, shoulder and closeout?
In Beginner - Asked by Alex

The peak, shoulder & closeout are different parts of a breaking wave. The peak is the first part where it starts breaking, you can spot it by the whitewater. The shoulder is the part of the wave that hasn't quite broken yet. Once the peak breaks, the wave will peel in one direction from the peak to the shoulder. Sometimes at beach breaks there are multiple peaks which can result in closeouts. Closeout refers to what happens when the wave breaks all at once. If there are two peaks, the closeout is where they meet. If the entire waves breaks at the same time, we also call it a closeout.
